1 Missing, 250 rescued from Danielle's riptides at Ocean City
August 29, 2010 - 01:01 pm
OCEAN CITY, Md. (AP) - Authorities are searching for a man who went missing while swimming in Ocean City.
The search comes after officials say lifeguards rescued more than 250 people caught in rip currents caused by Hurricane Danielle on Saturday.
Lifeguards called all swimmers out of the ocean around 5 p.m. because of the strong currents.
Captain Butch Arbin says four men went into the water several hours after the lifeguards left for the evening at 20th Street and ran into trouble. Arbin says rescue teams and a surfer pulled three from the water, but the fourth man was not found.
Authorities searched the water for about an hour before calling off the active rescue efforts. Arbin says the search for the missing swimmer is continuing Sunday.
