In a mass shooting that police believe started as a family dispute, seven people in Louisa County have been shot, leaving three dead.
Police say a suspect who fired on officers is among the dead.
According to the Associated Press, Louisa County sheriff's Maj. Donnie Lowe said the gunman began shooting after a dispute over property and belongings outside of the town of Louisa. Two men were killed and four other people wounded. One has life-threatening injuries.
The four wounded survivors were taken to the UVA Hospital, one with life-threatening injuries.
Lowe said the gunman and his dog were then killed in a shootout with police. Police said the man had unleashed the pit bull on officers.
The gunfire occurred near Kents Mill Road and Twigg Drive in Louisa.
