Mass shooting leaves 7 shot, 3 dead in Louisa County

In a mass shooting that police believe started as a family dispute, seven people in Louisa County have been shot, leaving three dead.

Police say a suspect who fired on officers is among the dead.

According to the Associated Press, Louisa County sheriff's Maj. Donnie Lowe said the gunman began shooting after a dispute over property and belongings outside of the town of Louisa. Two men were killed and four other people wounded. One has life-threatening injuries. 

The four wounded survivors were taken to the UVA Hospital, one with life-threatening injuries.

Lowe said the gunman and his dog were then killed in a shootout with police. Police said the man had unleashed the pit bull on officers.

The gunfire occurred near Kents Mill Road and Twigg Drive in Louisa.
