In a cryptic news release on Tuesday night, investigators implied the story was not as had first been reported:

"Police are still investing the incident in which Cornell Antonio Bennett was alleged to have forcibly removed his 1 year old son from his home on Bright Seat Road. At this time Mr. Bennett is NOT considered an abduction suspect and is no longer wanted by police. The incident is still under investigation. More details will be provided as they become available."

5 p.m.: Prince George's Police are searching for a man who they say forced his way into a home at gunpoint and abducted his 1-year-old son.

Authorities have identified the man as 24-year-old Cornell Antonio Bennett, of Northeast Washington. Detectives believe Bennett is armed and may be a danger to himself and his son, Jo'Ell Ahmonte Jackson.

The boy's mother, Janay Jackson, says all she wants right now is to get her son back, safe and sound.

"Just get my son home to me," Jackson pleaded.

Police say Bennett showed up at Jackson's Glen Arden apartment about 9 p.m. Monday.

"The child's father forced his way into the apartment with a gun and took the child in an erratic and unstable manner," said Ofc. Evan Baxter, a Prince George's County police spokesman.

Sources say investigators suspect Bennett was high on drugs at the time of the abduction.

Police searched Bennett's Northeast Washington home, but found no signs of Bennett or the boy.

Police are searching for the two. The boy's mother had a message for her son.

"I love you dearly and I'm going to come get you and you're coming home."

Police describe Bennett as 5 feet 9 inches tall and 150 pounds, and Jo'Ell as two feet tall and 28 pounds.

Anyone with information about Bennett's whereabouts is asked to call police at 301-772-4910 or anonymously to the Crime Solvers Tip Line at 1-866-411-TIPS.
