D.C. weather: Heavy rain causes area flooding
Updated: August 19, 2010 - 05:45 am
UPDATE 4:28 p.m.: The second round rain heading toward the Washington region is not as impressive as first thought, according to ABC 7 Meteorologist Chris Naille.
The storm is weakening as it crosses the mountains, meaning "we're not going to have a repeat, at least at this point, of what we had this morning," Naille said.
There will, however, still be areas of rain over the next several hours and into the overnight. But even a little bit of rain can be a problem in the hardest-hit areas.
Naille warns that some areas have already seen between two and four inches of rain today, and it only requires a few tenths of an inch to cause more flooding.

UPDATE 1:25 p.m.: With water receding across the region, ABC 7 meteorologists are again keeping an eye on the sky as another massive dose of rain closes in.
The second round is expected to hit about 4 p.m. and last until 8 p.m. While the rain is not expected to be as heavy, it will likely cause more problems during the evening rush hours.
While Reagan National Airport had recorded just shy of a half-inch of rain as of 1 p.m., some localized areas have seen between 2 and 4 inches, according to ABC 7 Meteorologist Chris Naille. That has left the ground saturated, making it more likely any evening precipitation will cause a second round of flooding.
