Working Women: Michelle Snow Bracken

The hottest trend in sweets is the cupcake, and ABC 7's Working Woman, Michelle Snow Bracken, is in the thick of it.

She and her mother Ann are hard at work at a new bakeshop in Chevy Chase Circle called Frosting.

Bracken has many childhood memories of them spending hours in the kitchen together.

"She's just so incredibly talented and I just kind of watched her growing up," Bracken said.

It was her lifelong dream to work with her family, but instead she started in a career of marketing and advertising. It wasn't until she met her husband Todd, who was working in IT at the time, that she decided to take the leap into sweets.

She tested the waters by doing the cupcakes for their wedding. Then her own business.

Frosting opened in A, and it's been a "whirlwind" ever since. Though the couple held stressful jobs before, they're working 16- to 18-hour days now. Michelle in the kitchen with her mother and Todd out front serving coffee.

It's a true labor of love.

"It's great," Bracken said. "I get to work with my family, I get to work with my husband and we love the neighborhood, it's our home away from home."

The delicately decorated cupcakes have names like Campfire, Autumn Love, Snowflake and Happy.  Bracken isn't threatened by the many others out there.

"I love competition because I'm confident that I have a great product, and it's pretty and we put a lot of hard work into it," she said.

Working closely with her mom, it's hard to avoid one common question of newlyweds.

"Everyone wants to know, when our baby is coming, and I'm like, 'Look around, this is a huge baby!'"

A book about the couple's romance, "The Icing on the Cake," is due out soon.
