Car crashes into building in Adams Morgan: Two pedestrians seriously hurt

Update 10:30 a.m.: Police say Chamica Adams was charged with aggravated assault and DWI.

Update 9:10 a.m.: D.C. police say the driver is a 23-year-old woman from Mitchellville, Md. She is currently being charged with driving while intoxicated and more charges are pending, police say. Two women remain hospitalized Thursday morning, one of them is listed in critical condition. Authorities say no patrons were inside of the restaurant at the time of the crash.

Update 4:34 a.m.: Roads in the area have been reopened following the crash.

Update: 11:07 p.m.: D.C. Police have confirmed that the driver was arrested. Charges are still pending.

Update: 10:44 p.m.: The woman who was driving the vehicle refused treatment, Piringer said. DC Police detained the driver, handcuffed her, and took her from the scene in a police vehicle.

Two pedestrians were seriously hurt when a vehicle crashed into an Adams Morgan restaurant about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to D.C. Fire and EMS.

The vehicle crashed into the Keren Restaurant at the intersection of 18th Street and Florida Avenue.

Fire spokesman Pete Piringer said one of the pedestrians was taken to the hospital in critical condition, and the other was in serious condition.

The Metropolitan Police Department's Major Crash Reconstruction Unit was summoned to the scene.

The driver, a female, was also transported with non-life threatening injuries.
