Costumed fans pour in to Verizon Center to see Lady Gaga
She's one of the music industry's hottest stars and she is never short on controversy. Lady Gaga performed at the Verizon Center Tuesday night and fans couldn't wait to see her.
Farraah Malekzadeh came to the Lady Gaga concert Tuesday night literally wearing red duct tape.
"I can't take it off," she shared.
She was far from being the only one donning an off-beat costume or strange wardrobe. Most fans say they relate not only physically but mentally with the pop sensation.
"She's all about liberating the freaks. I'm someone who was teased...in middle school," said one fan.
Whether it's speaking politically against Arizona's immigration law or morally preaching to her young fans to practice abstinence, the 24-year-old artist has always been out spoken and tends to push boundaries often.
D.C. Resident Jim Buchman said, "She's not afraid to express herself... Like it or not."
Perhaps her most controversial move has been a jaw-dropping ensemble on Vogue Japan: she's wearing nothing but a bikini made of raw, red meat.
"I don't know, it's kind of weird... Not personally my taste," commented D.C. resident Jack Funk.
Much of the crowd says that's what makes Lady Gaga special. They express their gratitude through dressing up. Some look-a-likes turned heads. The best we saw was a guy who cross-dressed in order to win tickets to the show.
"I'm rather impressed how dedicated she is to the art," he explained.
"Fortunately, she's at an age that she doesn't understand lyrics," said Kristin Sweeney about her daughter.
Sweeney has to make sure her daughter knows the difference between Lady Gaga's performances and views off-stage.
"This is not appropriate... Her big brother prays for us every time we listen," said Sweeney.
