Police: Suspect linked to 44 burglaries and larcenies
Fairfax County police are searching for a man they say is linked to at least 44 burglaries and larcenies.
Police say the incidents began on Aug. 24 in the Clifton area and has affected homes throughout the northern section of the county, including Sully, Fair Oaks, Reston and McLean.
Twenty four burglaries, 13 larcenies from cars and two unlawful entries have happened in these areas in the overnight hours, say police. They believe one man is responsible.
According to police, the man enters occupied homes through unlocked or open doors and windows. He then steals cash, purses and other property inside. Police say the man usually discards the purses outside the homes with only the cash missing.
Police also say he enters vehicles that are unlocked or smashes a window and takes property that is in plain view from inside.
As for the suspect, they believe he is 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall and 150 to 175 pounds.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS(8477), e-mail at www.fairfaxcrimesolvers.org or text "TIP187" plus a message to CRIMES(274637).
Police also remind residents to close and lock doors, garage doors, windows and cars, and keep valuable items out of plain view. They are also urging people to not leave purses, wallets or keys near an entryway in their homes.
If residents notice suspicious persons or activity, they can call non-emergency police number 703-691-2131 to report it.
