Clifton ES lawsuit hearing delayed
A judge has delayed a motions hearing in a lawsuit over Fairfax County Public Schools' plan to close Clifton Elementary School.
The hearing, which was set for Friday, will now be held Nov. 22, giving both sides more time to prepare. The motion was to dismiss the lawsuit.
Parents opposed to the school board's plan to close Clifton have filed a lawsuit challenging the decision. The plaintiffs claim the school board exceeded its authority and violated Virginia law.
In July, the board voted 9-2 to close the school. Board members cited high renovation costs, decreasing enrollment projections, safety concerns, and poor water quality in their decision.
Parents say those issues are exaggerated or soluble.
Official closure of the school could still be years away, depending on a school boundary study.
Fairfax County Public Schools declined to comment on the lawsuit.
