Jahed Babi murder investigation: Dozens gather to remember slain Fairfax County teen
Dozens gathered Monday night to remember a slain Fairfax County teenager whose body was found Sunday in Silas Burke Park.
Police aren't saying much about how 19-year-old Jahed Babi was killed, only that his he suffered some kind of trauma to the upper body, and that his death is being investigated as a murder.
Babi's family had fled Afghanistan because of the violence there. The young man had flourished in Northern Virginia, graduating from Lake Braddock Secondary School a year early. He was taking classes at Northern Virginia Community College for a career in information technology.
But friends who gathered for a vigil in Babi's honor Monday night said they had recently grown concerned about the crowd he had begun hanging out with.
"He was always a good guy, it's just the people he was with..." said Abraham Wehelie, a friend.
"The problem was he was a good guy with the wrong crowd, the wrong kinds of people who dragged him along to the darker side," said Kelly Aranibar.
Police have not made any arrests in the case or announced any suspects.
