Fire destroys house in Bloomingdale
January 17, 2011 - 11:33 pm
About 100 firefighters fought a two-alarm fire Monday in the Bloomingdale-LeDroit Park area in which several people were injured.
The fire started in a two-story row house at 1923 Second Street NW. Several firefighters were being treated for steam burns.
A fire spokesman said the fire is believed to have started in the basement and then spread to the upper floors.
The home belonged to Kathleen Reed, who returned to her residence Monday to find all she owns destroyed.
“I’m alive,” she said. And that’s the most important thing, she said.
“Right now what I have to do is be strong when you know that everything you own in the world - all your files and records and everything - has been burned up,” she said.
