Correction:
An earlier version of this story mistakenly indicated that police had confirmed speaking to the friend who apparently overheard the attack during a phone conversation; police had not confirmed this, according to spokesperson Capt. Paul Starks. Our apologies.
UPDATE Jan. 6, 1:22 p.m.: A Suburban Hospital worker stabbed his supervisor more than 70 times on New Year's Day after receiving a bad performance review, Montgomery County police said.
Keith D. Little, 49, of Lanham, Md., was charged with first-degree murder in the death of 40-year-old Roosevelt Brockington Jr. It is the second time Little has been accused of killing a co-worker.
Brockington had recently given Little a poor performance review that would deny him a raise, Montgomery County police Chief Tom Manger said. Investigators believe that was the motive for the attack.
Manger said Brockington was on the phone when the attack happened. The person on the other end of the line "heard someone enter the office and say, 'Give me your money' and something to the effect of, 'Do you have any more?'" Chief Manager said, repeating the conversation. "There was a commotion and the phone went dead."
Manger said detectives immediately focused their investigation on hospital employees, who were the only people with access to the boiler room office where Brockington was killed.
Police said Little had come to their attention because he had been charged with first-degree murder in D.C. in 2005. He was arrested in 2005 and charged with killing his co-worker in 2003 at an apartment building on 15th Street in the District. A jury found Little not guilty in 2006, according to court records.
Little was charged with first-degree murder in Brockington's death and is being held without bond pending a bond review Friday.
