Teen murdered over iPod, jacket, family members say
A 16-year-old boy was murdered Sunday afternoon when he refused to give up his jacket and an iPod to muggers, a family member tells ABC7.
The boy, 16-year-old Bryant Morillo, and his friend were standing at a bus stop about 1:30 p.m. at the corner of 4th Street and New Hampshire Avenue NW, police said. According to family members, two muggers approached and demanded the boys' jackets and an iPod.
When they refused, the family said, they were shot. Morillo died in the hospital. The other victim survived.
Neighbors heard the shots and immediately called 911. One man who declined to be identified says he and a nearby woman tried CPR, and putting pressure on the boy's wounded neck with a towel.
"I hope what me and the lady were doing helped him," the man said. "Keep him alive a while, you know, he didn't die out in the street, you know, alone."
The attackers fled south down 4th Street NW. Police ask anyone with information to call (202) 727-9099 or 1-888-919-CRIME (1-888-919-2746).
Morillo was one of two people shot to death in D.C. on Sunday.
