McLean sisters helping military families

Take a 12-year-old and a 15-year-old, add a whole lot of heart, humility and determination and you have the Okun sisters of McLean.

A few years ago, they hatched a plan to help America’s military families. And in just five years, they’ve done more social good than most of us will in a lifetime.

The Okun sisters created “Thanks USA,” an online family game that raises money for scholarships for the spouses and children of America’s men and women in service.

In five years, the girls have raised $6.5 million in donations and grants and have given away more than 2,200 scholarships.

They’ve been honored alongside Colin Powell, have hosted prestigious events to raise money and are embraced by America’s celebrities.

Anteah Jones is married to an Airforce reservist. She’s the mother of four and said her dreams are coming true because of the Okun sisters. She’s graduating in May.

“I think amazing. Selfless. Dedication,” she said. “What 12 year old and 15 year old do you know that are not thinking about themselves.”
