Students take part in distracted driving test
February 28, 2011 - 06:14 pm
Katie Manning never thought she’d go out of control so fast.
The 16-year-old new driver is trying her hand at a video game that helps drivers understand what happens when they’re distracted – even for a split second.
Katie is part of a demonstration at Westfield High School that tests a new technology, designed by a trio of George Mason University graduate and Ph. D students. The test is in a safe setting and the level of distraction can be measured.
For researchers, it shows how fast and how extreme the results of distracted driving are.
