“It keeps the public's attention. It brings more attention to the case,” said Montgomery County police Captain Paul Starks. “This is a horrific crime it deserves attention. There’s somebody out there who knows some information, we'd like to hear from them.”

Jayna Murray, 30, was raped and killed Friday night. A 27-year-old co-worker was raped but survived despite being beaten and bound.

She described to police two masked men who burst into the Bethesda Avenue store after hours.

Starks said those with information can text 274637 and write MCPD plus the tip to anonymously offer information.

Detectives continue to gather evidence but the case remains unsolved – a fact that weighs on those who pause at the storefront memorial.

“It’s scary for the other shop owners also I’m sure they're concerned at night,” said Sue Connor.

Murray was well known and liked in the busy neighborhood of boutiques and restaurants. People continue to offer prayers and gifts in front of the still-closed store. Many ask hopefully is the case has been solved.

“You just don't believe there’s human beings out there - this is how they spend their free time,” said Kahlil Glenn, a Bethesda resident. “I mean it’s awful. You hope they catch the people and they get punished.”
