Dr. John Herrity of Burke Animal Clinic  is among the first doctor's in the United States to use stem cell therapy in treatment of canine arthritis, Burke Patch reports.

“You get frustrated treating the same thing again and again without getting results,” Herrity told Patch. “Especially with allergies [in dogs]. I can tell them they’re going to come back in two or three months for the same thing. You’re band-aiding, you’re just treating the symptom, not the problem.”

Herrity first used such a treatment last year, when he used it on his own dog to correct a displaysia-relate limp. The surgeries essential take a dog's own tissue to mend areas of inflamed or damaged tissue. Now he conducts such procedures in his own clinic, the only in Virginia to offer them.
