The Verizon Center, the home of the Capitals, Wizards, Mystics, Georegtown basketball and dozens of events, received its new name in 2006.
WTOP's Adam Tuss reports, though, that a few street signs near Downtown Washington are stuck in the past.

Verizon Center opened in 1997 with the MCI Center moniker. However, when MCI was acquired by Verizon in 2006, the name of the arena changed.
