D.C. taxi gas surcharge: Charge now applies to interstate trips

In a reversal of original policy, the new $1 gas surcharge added to taxi fares within Washington D.C. will now also be attached to rides that travel into Maryland and Virginia.
Mayor Vincent Gray's original executive order limited the surcharge to rides taken completely within the District's borders.
Gray introduced the surcharge on Saturday as a way for taxi drivers to offset rising fuel prices.
