Kwame Brown's Navigators may cost D.C. $33K
The District could potentially be out more than $33,000 to cover the cost of two Lincoln Navigators leased for D.C. Council Chairman Kwame Brown, the Washington Examiner reports.
Department of Public Works Director William Howland testified Thursday during a D.C. Council hearing called by Ward 6 Councilman Tommy Wells to investigate. Howland says the District illegalyl prepaid $17,600 on the first Navigator leased at Brown's request one day after the November general election, according to the Washington Examiner.
"Unfortunately, an error was made in the payment to Standard Leasing," said Howland, the Examiner reports. "Standard Leasing invoiced DPW for the remaining months of the fiscal year and DPW processed the payment. DPW should have noted the incorrect billing and paid for only one month at a time."
