Memorial grows for Bethesda slaying victim
The memorial in front of the Lululemon Athletica store in Bethesda continues to grow.
Every few minutes another person arrives with more flowers, or to pause for a moment to pay their respects to 30-year-old Jayna Murray, who was beaten to death last Friday night.
Police are still searching for the two masked men involved with Murray’s death, and the assault of her 27-year-old co-worker.
“You know it could happen to any of us,” said Megan Myers. “So yeah, just keeping her in our prayers.”
The suspects’ pending arrests brings fear to many residents in the neighborhood.
“I mean murder in Bethesda, on a Friday night? It just almost crazy,” said Bob Cheff.
Police are still in the process of examining evidence gathered at the scene; video from the neighborhood tipsters have offered more than 40 leads.
“It's a lot of work in this case,” said Capt. Paul Starks. “The public has been a help and we still need to hear from them. We've interviewed some folks, and we may go back and interview them again.”
On Facebook, an electronic memorial to Murray has provided friends a place to share their thoughts and condolences.
She’ll be laid to rest in her home state of Texas Friday evening.
