Northern Virginia potholes: Over 8,000 filled in 2011 alone

The Virginia Department of Transportation has already filled about 8,000 potholes in Northern Virginia thus far in 2011, InsideNova.com reports.
The work is costing the state millions, a VDOT spokesperson says. They say they've budgeted about $12 million for asphalt and pothole patching for 2011.
AAA Mid-Atlantic says they don't keep track of specific service calls for pothole damage. However, they say that during the first week of March, they responded to over 1,000 flat tire assistance calls.
