Tap water could smell, taste different
March 21, 2011 - 11:47 am
Your tap water may taste or smell a bit different today through May 2 as D.C. Water and Sewer Authority temporarily switches from chloramine to chlorine.
"This annual change is part of a routine maintenance program to keep the water distribution system in the District of Columbia, Arlington County and Falls Church clean and free of potentially harmful bacteria," according to a DC Water news release. "A temporary switch to chlorine with system-wide flushing is done to maintain water quality throughout the year."
Last year's chlorine treatment began in February and lasted about three and a half months, according to DCist.
For more information on the temporary switch, check the DC Water site, which includes a full FAQ.
