U-Md. student starts competitive eating club

It's not an Olympic sport, but some folks at the University of Maryland are trying to start a competitive eating league.

ABC7's Kris Van Cleave was there for the team's first competition against other students. The event, and the 40-member club, were both cooked up by junior Keith Soloman.

It's star, however, is Phil "The Fury" Fiore, a ferocious competitor.

"I ate 15 White Castle burgers in a minute, eight cheese steaks in 15 minutes," The Fury said.

He's the University of Maryland Competitive Eating Club team's star gorger.

The new club's first real test was taking on members of U-Md's rugby team and girls from the ultimate frisbee squad.

The competition is pretty simply: eat all of the food as fast as you can. Whoever gets done first wins.

The winner was perhaps unsurprising.
