'Law and Order' actress, Tamara Tunie petitions Congress on child abuse
On TV Tamara Tunie plays a character that is almost always surrounded by child abuse issues. In real life, Tunie is not far from that type of role, The Washington Post reports.
The “Law & Order SVU” actress, along with child care advocates, visited the Rayburn House Office Building Tuesday to petition members of Congress to hold hearings on child abuse deaths and organize a national campaign to address the issue.
Tunie, who plays a medical examiner on the award-winning series, said cast members have become advocates through Neal Baer, the show’s executive producer, who happened to work as a pediatrician before entering the television industry.
“This is an issue that needs to be addressed nationally and one of the blessings of being a successful actress is that people listen to what you have to say,” Tunie said.
