Alexandria mother of 3 fatally shot
Three Alexandria children are mourning their mother, who was shot Thursday night on Edmonston Street in Bladensburg. Her baby, who was near her in a car seat, remained unharmed.
The victim, 33-year-old Shawnta Coleman, was taken to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Prince George's County Police said they are assisting with the homicide investigation.
Family members said Coleman had dreams to model and travel the world. According to police, someone shot her Thursday night in the parking lot of a Bladensburg apartment complex.
Her 6-month-old daughter London, in her child seat, sat unharmed beside her dying mother.
Shawnta told family members she was going to Georgetown. But was found on Bladensburg's Edmonston Street.
For her 14-year-old sons and her sister, questions, pain and confusion remain.
"I want to know why," said Dante Coleman.
"She was like my sister. That was my best friend," said her son, Asante Coleman.
