D.C. can still sue Adrian Fenty's fraternity brothers' company
WASHINGTON (AP) - A revised settlement in a lawsuit between the city and a company owned by former Mayor Adrain Fenty's fraternity brothers still allows the district to sue the company for other claims.
The Washington Examiner reports the modified settlement was filed earlier this month and the D.C. Council voted on Tuesday to stop trying to intervene in the suit.
Allegations that Fenty steered contracts to his friends became a key issue in his unsuccessful bid for re-election, but he was cleared in a lengthy probe into the awarding of the contracts to Banneker Ventures.
In a July settlement, the city agreed to pay Banneker $550,000. The settlement put an end to Banneker's claims that the city owed it $2.3 million for a parks and recreation construction contract.
