D.C. Council hearing targets chairman's finances
April 19, 2011 - 05:39 am
WASHINGTON (AP) - The district's Office of Campaign Finance has held a closed hearing over irregularities found during D.C. Council Chairman Kwame Brown's 2008 re-election bid for an at-large Council seat.
Brown did not attend Monday's hearing, but OCF spokesman Wesley Williams says Dawn Cromer, the treasurer for Brown's 2008 campaign, did speak. Williams declined to say what was discussed.
An audit released earlier this month found more than $300,000 in donations and expenditures that Brown's campaign failed to account for. It also found that Brown used a political consulting firm to pass $239,000 to a company operated by his brother.
Williams says additional hearings will be scheduled.
