Martin O'Malley applies for federal high-speed rail funding
April 5, 2011 - 02:01 pm
Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley (D) announced Tuesday that the state has formally applied for federal funding toward high-speed rail projects.
The funds became available when Florida Gov. Rick Scott declined his state's share of $2.4 billion in federal funds.
"We will continue to aggressively pursue every opportunity to help rebuild our infrastructure, create jobs and fuel economic progress throughout our state," O'Malley said.
The projects in Maryland's request for funds would support 2,300 jobs, O'Malley said.
If approved, the funding would go toward such projects are adding tracks to rail service at BWI-Marshall Airport and three rail bridges in northeast Maryland.
