Montgomery County Council to block $4M Costco grant
April 19, 2011 - 09:03 am
Montgomery County Council members have formed a coalition to block a $4 million grant to lure Costco to Wheaton, the Washington Examiner reports.
County Executive Ike Leggett placed the grant funding in his proposed budget for the next fiscal year, but now, the majority of the council is against the multimillion-dollar plan to bring Costco to the Westfield Wheaton Shopping Mall, the Examiner reports.
"Westfield Mall has gazillions of dollars," Councilman Marc Elrich, D-at large, told the Washington Examiner. "The idea we're giving them $4 million more -- no way. They're going to make a freaking fortune on Costco. They need to suck it up and deal with it."
