VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) - Authorities have captured a wandering black bear that spent several days roaming through Virginia Beach.
Media outlets report that the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries tranquilized the animal after it climbed a tree in a residential area.
The agency lowered the slumbering bear from the tree and removed it from the city.
Friday's capture capped two days of reported bear sightings.
Virginia Beach police had warned residents to stay away from the animal.
Police spokeswoman Grazia Moyers said there were reports of sightings Mediterranean Avenue, at the oceanfront and near Cooke Elementary School.
