D.C. voting rights protest planned on the Hill
D.C. Vote, the advocacy group dedicated to establishing congressional representation for the District, is planning a protest on Capitol Hill Wednesday afternoon.
Mayor Vincent Gray and D.C. Council Chairman Kwame Brown are scheduled to testify about District spending in front of a D.C. House subcommittee. In response, D.C. Vote plans the protest to "challenge our opponents to free DC's local budget from congressional interference."
Called a protest for "Home rule and local budget control," D.C. Vote slammed the House subcommittee:
"Subcommittee members say they want to 'help' DC with fiscal responsibility, though Congress couldn't even pass a final budget for this year, and the Mayor's proposal is balanced, once again."
