MPD officer was at scene of Thursday night shooting
A D.C. police officer was sitting in his cruiser at the intersection of 1st and Q NW when shots were fired nearby Thursday night. So why weren't the suspects immediately arrested?
Because, police spokeswoman Gwen Crump said in an email, the officer was helping victims of the shooting instead of chasing after suspects.
"He immediately got out, called for assistance, and attended to one or two of the three victims that he saw at the scene," Crump said in an email. "Although, a large group of people began running from the shooting scene, the officer had no knowledge of who any of the suspects were. As is proper MPD procedure, he attended to the wounded as his primary responsibility."
Three people were hurt in shooting at 201 Q St NW, according to the MPD 5-D listserv. An adult female, adult male, and juvenile male suffered injures that weren't considered to be life-threatening.
Possible suspects were spotted fleeing the scene on foot, according to the listserv post.
