Tanger Factory Outlet to open at National Harbor
Tanger Factory Outlet is coming to National Harbor, and will bring about 900 full-time and part-time ongoing jobs, the Washington Business Journal first reported.
The new mall with about 80 stores will be built at the National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Md., where it will join the waterfront area of condos, stores, restaurants and hotels. The deal over the $100 million retail attraction was announced Monday by Fairfax Va., the Peterson Cos., developer of National Harbor.
The outlet is expected to house about 80 outlet designer and name brand stores in a 350,000-square-foot center on about 40 acres at National Harbor. The center will also create more than 400 construction jobs.
Prince George’s County lacks many shopping options, meaning many residents drive to Virginia to spend their money.
The recession hit the National Harbor rather hard during its debut a couple of years ago, delaying the opening of retail shops. Under this approach, property owners hope discount stores will attract shoppers.
The outlet expected to break ground later this year, and the grand opening is expected about 12 to 15 months after the construction.
