Capital Bikeshare: Alexandria considers joining CaBi
June 1, 2011 - 07:43 am
Capital Bikeshare may be expanding south to Alexandria, according to WAMU.
The popular program, which started in Arlington and later expanded into the District, may be available with its southern neighbor. The Alexandria City Manager is considering a pilot program, starting in Old Town. Six stations would be built, housing 54 bikes. CaBi users can currently choose from 1100 bikes in 110 stations.
Over 13,800 riders have used the program, which has become so popular that CaBi is rewarding customers for dropping off their bikes at empty locations during the morning rush. It would be a perfect fit in Alexandria, a town that's home to numerous bike trails.
The decision is expected to come down this summer.
