Four Mile Run gets federal restoration funds
June 14, 2011 - 11:33 am
The Arlington County Board has accepted a $486,000 grant to begin work on the Four Mile Run Tidal Restoration Project.
The grant will allow Arlington and Alexandria to start restoring wetlands along the steam bank in efforts to improve aesthetics. Restoring the wetlands will allow for improvement in the overall water quality of the stream.
The county says this is just the first phase of a comprehensive restoration of Four Mile Run. The complete project is expected to return the stream to a more natural and better functioning waterway.
The project will begin next year.
