History Channel explores D.C.'s shape

Ever wondered how the District got its shape? The History Channel reveals interesting facts of the infamous city in a recent episode of How the States Got Their Shapes. The tie between the city and Virginia are very close as the state had a lot to do with shaping D.C.
The series takes you into how the Founding Fathers picked the District as the capital thanks to George Washington’s layout. It later explains why Congress altered one-third of D.C.’s borders, which ultimately led to Washington’s diamond shape layout tearing apart. How did that happen? Mainly because D.C. is not a state.
