Montgomery County superintendent recommends charter school
June 24, 2011 - 10:32 am
Montgomery County Public Schools Superintendent Jerry Weast has recommended the first charter school for the county. The school, Community Montessori Public Charter School, would be run by Crossway Community Inc.
On the surface, it makes sense that MoCo would want to jump on the charter school bandwagon. After all, charter schools are popular policy. But Montgomery — whose graduation rate is tops in the nation, and whose schools overall are among the best — doesn't have an educational void that would need to be filled by charter schools. Why charter schools, MoCo? The answer seems to be, why not?
