Social Media Day 2011 is today
For some people, it's easy to forget what life was like before Twitter and Facebook, when the entire world didn't need to know about your every move.
That must be why Mashable is once again acknowledging the popularity of — or, better stated, dependence on — social networking with its second annual “Social Media Day.” After all, those people who dedicate much of their day to retweets and status updates should be recognized for their efforts, if only to get them off their computers/phones/tablets for an hour or two.
So tonight, in locations including Washington, Arlington, McLean and Hyattsville, social media fanatics will gather to celebrate themselves. They will arrive at, say, the rooftop of Ozio, and promptly check in on Foursquare, Twitpic a photo of the sunset, and then check their Facebook news feed.
Which is to say, they probably won't be very social at all.
