Remember that Bloomberg article about how awful it is being a single woman in D.C. — that it's an "intellectual meat market" with a sex ratio greatly in men's favor? Well, ignore it! A new survey by Rent.com says we're the fifth-best "city" in the U.S. for bachelorettes, beating out Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and even New York.

The District "is home to powerful, civically-minded men with cultural charm, and a low divorce rate adds to the appeal of settling down on Capitol Hill," according to a press release by Rent.com. "Take a tour of the National Mall monuments at night or enjoy the cherry blossoms by day. For the best view of the city, meet your date at the clock tower at the Old Post Office Building." Thanks for the insider dating tips, guys! We'll take it from here.

The survey was conducted online among 1,000 "nationally representative single American men and women" over the age of 18, and the "cities chosen for this list each boast a high single male-to-female ratio, lively nightlife, low divorce rate and/or a low cost of living. These cities are ranked in order of those that have gained the greatest reputation for being havens to single women." Phoenix topped the list, followed by Seattle, Austin, and Denver.

A word of warning, though: The survey revealed that only 17 percent want that tired sitcom plot device of having single men next door. Worse yet, 25 percent would rather have pets than men for neighbors.
