Dumpster diving with the D.C. Sierra Club
July 5, 2011 - 12:08 pm
Local businesses may be surprised to find their trashy secrets being delved into.
District retailers are required to recycle bottles, cans and paper, but not all of them do. Enter the D.C. Sierra Club, whose members have decided to play environmental cops by dumpster diving in search of offenders, reports WAMU.
Sierra Club recycling chair Lauren Elasik insists the purpose isn’t to assign blame, and yet, dumpster diver Peter Bergen is quoted as saying, "If we find anything in there that should be recycled and hasn't been, we will take a picture as evidence."
If you're not assigning blame, why have photographic evidence? Huh, Sierra Club? TELL US.
