New 9th Street Bridge dedicated by Mayor Gray, local leaders
Mayor Vincent Gray, federal and city leaders dedicated the new 9th Street NE bridge over New York Avenue.
Traffic can now avoid the 4th Street NE detour and easily access businesses and neighborhoods on either side of the corridor.
The new bridge replaces a 70-year-old bridge over the train tracks along New York Avenue. It features wider lanes and sidewalks to give more space to bicyclists.
DDOT Director Terry Bellamy says the city is seeing a boom in bike traffic, including this area of Northeast.
Major construction projects continue along the New York Avenue corridor.
D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray calls the roadway vital to economic development downtown.
