Anacostia women's shelter targeted by NIMBYs

Think back to last week, when Anacostia was identified as the latest gentrifying neighborhood — one being gentrified by minorities — and how excited we all were to discuss an emerging neighborhood other than H Street. Well, it was only a matter of time before those gentrifiers turned NIMBY on us.
Residents are upset that Calvary Women's Services is, at a cost of $3 million, redeveloping a building there as a women's shelter, City Paper reports.
"It's a very frustrating process, because the community wants so desperately to move forward, and when services like this are on every block in our neighborhood, it makes it difficult to promote the neighborhood," Charles Wilson told the paper.
It doesn't matter that Ward 8 has the most incidents of domestic violence by percentage in the District, because the sooner the neighborhood gets that Starbucks, the sooner all those beatings will stop. That's how it works, right?
