Remember when we told you that, despite the recession, our region is doing just fine? Well, ignore all of it.
The D.C. area still has a low regional unemployment rate, but the number rose in June, from 5.7 percent to 6.2 percent. The region dropped 2,700 jobs compared to last year — though many of those were temporary census workers, the Post reports. In the District itself, the jobless rate rose from 10.2 in May to 11.9.
This may also be the beginning of the end of plentiful government jobs, mostly thanks to these folks. Maybe you can find a job in D.C.'s most promising emerging industry.
