Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial schedule announced, D.C. residents get sneak preview
We get first dibs! Mayor Vince Gray has announced the District's event schedule for the week leading up to the Aug. 28 dedication of the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, and it includes a sneak peek of the memorial for D.C. residents. Also: yet another rally demanding that we get some representation with our taxes.
Tuesday, Aug. 23: A special preview of the memorial for District residents Thursday, Aug. 25: Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue Street Dedication
Friday, Aug. 26: “Welcome to D.C.” Reception (for out-of-town elected officials and civil rights leaders) hosted by Mayor Gray
Saturday, Aug. 27: D.C. Full Democracy Freedom Rally and March
These are just the events planned by the District itself. (There are also film screenings, exhibits, and a speaker series at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Library throughout August and September.) A schedule of all the week's events can be found here.
