H Street liquor-license cap under consideration by Capitol Hill ANC
September 14, 2011 - 03:10 pm
H Street's status as D.C.'s premiere emerging neighborhood might be in jeopardy by a proposed limit to the number of alcohol licenses the street could be allotted, which we suppose is newsworthy only if you believe the corridor doesn't have too many bars already.
In the past few years, 17 bars and restaurants have opened along a 13-block stretch of the street, and, as The Hill is Home reports, a Capitol Hill ANC is considering imposing a liquor-license limit this fall. Should this come to pass, H Street would join Adams Morgan, Dupont Circle and Glover Park as neighborhoods with such caps.
And if it doesn't come to pass, H Street will join Adams Morgan, Dupont Circle and Glover Park as neighborhoods which were formerly "emerging."
