Lewis Black on Silver Spring, his hometown: 'This whole area was a shithole'

The Fillmore Silver Spring's grand opening isn't until tomorrow, with Mary J. Blige, but the Live Nation venue held a VIP opening last night, during which the city's prodigal son, Lewis Black, delivered his trademark raspy, expletive-filled rants on all manner of subjects, including his hometown.

As 94.7 Fresh FM reports, Black said, "I was born and raised around here. This, where we are — this whole area was a shithole. You have to realize that 40 years ago there was nothing out there. So to return here now, and to see what they've done with this area, fucked me all.* I don't think the children should have any of the advantages that I was deprived of."

Then, to show he's just making funnies, Black gave a $10,000 jumbo check to Springbrook, his former high school. It's not clear how much of that money was his, and how much of it was Live Nation's, but it's nice to know that those exorbitant "convenience charges" sometimes go toward something worthwhile.

* At least that's what it sounds like. Feel free to correct me in the comments.

UPDATE: Jeremy Binckes thinks Black said "pisses me off," which would make a lot more sense. If Black would just enunciate, we wouldn't have to bother writing updates on frivolous stories.
