National Cathedral crane collapse causes Sept. 11 venue change

The National Cathedral was hit particularly hard by the recent earthquake, suffering millions in damages, but officials said that planned Sept. 11 commemorative events, including a ceremony to be attended by President Obama, would go on. But after a crane being used to repair the damaged steeples collapsed yesterday, those events — save a Sunday morning interfaith vigil on the grounds of the cathedral — are moving to the Kennedy Center.
