University of Maryland's new football uniforms: Twitter reacts
Imagine if two people were asked to design half of a football uniform, independent of each other, using only the state flag as a reference. Then imagine that their designs were combined, two halves making a whole. That's what the University of Maryland's new unis looks like. When two players stand face-to-face, they look like opponents rather than teammates.
We should probably mention here that the Terps kicked off its football season last night with a 32-24 win over Miami, but all the talk today has been about their befuddling Under Armour uniforms. Currently, a poll over at ESPN's SportsNation breaks down as such:
Worst uniforms ever: 30%
Ugly but there are worse: 38%
Love the new look: 32%
And here are a few jokes made, at UMD's expense, on Twitter:
What's the point of having team colors if your team doesn't wear those colors? Some of the weirdest unis ever seen! #umd #marylandfootball
Another reason not to like UMD -- just look at the choice of uniforms from last night
Good God: it looks like Maryland's state flag threw up on the UMD football team's helmets/uniforms.
THIS IS THE REASON WHY I WILL NEVER STEP ONE FOOT INTO THAT STATE AGAIN.. RT @bretradio Word is that recruits LOVE the new UMD uniforms
UMd should go undefeated this season the uniforms will be so distracting, opponents won't be able to concentrate and be flat out hypnotized!
[EXTREME SEIZURE WARNING] - When watching the #Maryland Terps play football, my god those jerseys are ugly
Great win for Terps. Overcame weather, blown chances, tough opponent and uniform that looked like somethin my 6-year-old daughter picked out
Anyone on Maryland have "HE HATE ME" on the back if their jersey?
But it was Eric Stangel, head writer for the Late Show with David Letterman, who won the Twitters with this string of tweets:
For the uniforms alone, Maryland should be charged with lack of institutional control...
Even Craig Sager is saying the Maryland uniforms are "too much"
If you think these Maryland uniforms are bad, look what they're wearing next week... http://yfrog.com/mns5jlj
