Washington Monument repairs delayed, yet again

It's becoming comical, but the Washington Monument's repairs have been delayed again ...  and the D.C. icon will remain closed indefinitely. The monument suffered significant damage from the August earthquake. Monument repairs were initially projected to last through the winter, and we're already see the first repair delays.

Thanks to this week's stormy weather, the National Park Service is delaying the latest round of inspections because they're afraid of lightning strikes

"Throughout its nearly 140 years, the monument has been struck by lightning many times and survived. But a human being isn't that lucky," National Park Service spokesman Bill Line told the Examiner. The monument's re-opening may be announced in October — unless there's another reason that God won't allow it to be fixed.
